Friends of Hillsdale Library
The role of the Hillsdale Library has changed over the years. Whereas once it was merely a place to check out books and go for quiet study, now the library serves as a de facto community center for Hillsdale and the surrounding area. Students gather to show off their technological inventions at the annual NJ Makers Day. Seniors gather to view the latest films of interest at Senior Cinema. Multiple community groups utilize the meeting room for their regular meetings and activities. Residents rely on our updated computers and printers to meet their professional and research needs. And members of all types use the BCCLS system to access a wide array of materials such as movies, music, RB Digital magazines, eBooks, as well as traditional reading materials. The Friends of the Hillsdale Library’s goal is to help raise the funds to meet these changing needs. Over the past year alone, the Friends have funded new technology such as LED televisions, audio and computer equipment.
The Friends also financially support an array of outstanding programming, including NJ Makers Day, children’s & teen’s summer reading programs, summer and foreign film series, author visits, free museum passes to the Guggenheim, Intrepid and Grounds for Sculpture and our ongoing book sale, all meant to promote increased use of our library. And the Friends intend to fund additional programming that the Library will implement in 2018.
I would also like to remind you that we have many naming opportunities available in the library. From shelving end-caps to entire rooms, there are plenty of ways to name portions of the library for a loved one. We encourage more of our neighbors to consider a more permanent gift to our community. Please stop by the circulation desk for more details.
Thank you for your continued help.
